We are not fans of bulky phone cases. About three years ago, we developed the Air Case, the thinnest and lightest aramid fiber case in the world. It’s loved by many people for how minimalistic it is.
This year, when we developed our magnetic case for the iPhone 14 lineup, we couldn’t help but think, is there any way to make our MagEZ series case thinner even with MagSafe magnets embedded?
Meet the MagEZ Case 3 for iPhone 14 series.
Why We Need Thin Cases
Look at the mobile phone history, and you’ll know why “slim is the new sexy” in this age. Phones are getting much slimmer than a decade ago because a slim profile looks gorgeous and is more comfortable to hold, particularly true given that we’re more obsessed with the handset than ever. So, why cover your beautiful phone with a bulky case?
“I want to protect my phone.”
We get it. The moment your phone flies out of your hand and hits the floor, you wish you had used a protective case. The truth is, no matter how thick your phone case is, it’s still possible that your phone ends up with a cracked screen from a 5-feet drop if, unfortunately, it lands at a wrong angle.
In fact, mobile phones are made pretty durable nowadays. The iPhone 14 models have aerospace-grade aluminum or stainless steel frames and ceramic shield protective glass that offers scratch resistance and four times the drop protection. And they are dust, splash, and water-resistant with an IP68 rating.
In addition, how often do you drop your phone? Do you still remember when the last time you drop your phone? For people who are not very good at dropping things, all you need is to protect your phone from scratches, scuffs, and bumps when you lay it on the table, put it in, and take it out of your bag or pocket, or attach it against something.
Using a thin case, you can appreciate the slim silhouette of your phone as much as possible and hold it all day with comfort, while using it worry-free in your daily life because it takes care of your phone in situations you can’t.
We believe we are not the only group who’s beating the drum for thin phone cases.
MagSafe SlimBoard™: Tech Behind the Thinnest iPhone 14 Case
The average thickness of MagSafe cases on the market is about 1.8mm. To reduce the thickness to a noticeable degree, the key is how to make the MagSafe magnet array thinner.
Like most phone case makers do, when designing the MagEZ Case 2 for iPhone 13 series, we put an array of MagSafe magnets in the middle of the aramid fiber or other materials, then compress them. It’s the easiest way (and seemingly the only way) to embed magnets in phone cases. But that, inevitably, shows circular imprints on the case and decides that MagSafe cases are thick.
Our engineers and designers spent months finding a new way to insert MagSafe magnets in phone cases, and we developed MagSafe SlimBoard™ after numerous tests. First, we infused the MagSafe magnet (N52SH) array with resin through vacuum and high-pressure processes, making them a united thin piece. Then we put the sheet between aramid fiber fabric and compressed them. This way, the case won’t show any imprints of the MagSafe, and more importantly, the case becomes much thinner.
Sounds easy? True, the technology behind it is not at all difficult. But, it takes a lot of time and effort to make it real. Like our CEO James said, “Creativity or design is more about using the existing technology to make something new and useful to simplify people’s lives than developing new technology.” That’s how so many great products were invented, such as the iPod or the triangle-formed camera lens on new iPhones. The question is, are you able to put together those technologies to create something new and valuable?
Introducing The Thinnest iPhone 14 Pro Max Case
Thanks to MagSafe SlimBoard™, the MagEZ Case 3 for iPhone 14 series is 33% thinner and 27% lighter than the MagEZ Case 2, with a thickness of 0.95mm and minimal weight of 17.3g. And it’s about 40% thinner and 28% lighter than the average MagSafe iPhone 14 cases out there.
Does the case feature weaker magnetic force? You may wonder. Last year, we made the iPhone 13 cases with strong MagSafe magnets, which perform stronger magnetic force than Apple’s MagSafe cases. While our cases may work well in some circumstances, they are not very good for wireless charging. Stronger or thicker magnets mean greater influence on wireless charging. This year, we redesigned our cases to seek a balance between protection and slimness, wireless charging speed, and magnetic force. The MagEZ Case 3 is thinner and lighter than their predecessors. Still, they have MagSafe connectivity as strong as Apple’s MagSafe cases. With our upgraded cases, we hope your new iPhone looks great, is comfortable to hold all day, charges at the fastest possible speed, and magnetically holds tight to those MagSafe accessories.
The thinnest iPhone 14 case from PITAKA lets you feel your slim new iPhone and appreciate its beauty as much as possible while providing decent protection. It works seamlessly with Apple’s MagSafe accessories and PITAKA’s PitaFlow for Phones system to give you a worry-free and transit-free experience.
